Having not seen everything of Philadelahia yet, it was time for another run through the city. Unfortunately, I forgot the camera and now, you cannot see the following things:
(1) South Street with its little shops and funky bars
(2) The Italian market, where Rocky Balboa went jogging and where 500 pounds of Parmesan cheese dangle in the store windows
(3) My first REAL cheesesteak (Whiz, onions) at "Jim's Steaks" (est. 1939)
(4) The Gregorian architecture around 3rd street
(5) Elfreth's Alley, the oldest constantly inhabited street of the nation (since 1713) (Is THAT impressive? I don't think so... But flocks of high school kids were left with their mouths open.)

Da ich immer noch nicht alles von Philly gesehen habe, war es Zeit für eine neue Tour durch die Stadt, diesmal durch den Süden. Leider habe ich meine Kamera vergessen, darum sind die folgenden Dinge hier nicht zu sehen (v.l.n.r.):
(1) South Street, Philly's Partystraße mit kleinen Läden und funky Bars.
(2) Der italienische Markt, auf dem Rocky Balboa so pittoresk gejoggt ist, und in dem man 500 Pfund original-Parmesan kaufrn kann, falls man mal 800 Liter Spagetthisauce macht.
(3) Mein erstes ECHTES Cheesesteak von Jim's Steaks (South, 3rd N), est 1939. In der variante Whiz/Onions ein Herzinfarkt im Brötchen, aber leeecker!!
(4) Die gregorianischen Häuschen auf der 3. Straße.
(5) Elreth's Alley, die älteste konstant bewohnte Straße Amerikas. Bewohnt seit 1713, und damit nur knapp (ca. 300 Jahre) hinter Kempens Tiefstraße... Den Highschool-Kindern hat es trotzdem den Atem verschlagen.

On friday, I did bring my camera, because some dude on the 11th floor had a birthday party. (If you read this, sorry, but I forgot your name, dude...)

Am Freitag habe ich meine Kamera dann mitgeommen und ein paar Partyfotos geschossen, denn irgendein Typ im 11. Stock hatte Geburtstag. (Falls Du das hier liest und verstehst, sorry, ich hab Deinen Namen vergessen, Typ...)

Impressions:

Jim ist auf dem Weg nach oben im Aufzug stecken geblieben und wurde mithilfe einer Bratpfannen-Brechstange befreit.
On his way up, Jim got stuck in an Elevator and had to be rescued using a frying pan as a crowbar.

Saturday: Atlantic City, the East Coast's Vegas. It's a cold, slightly moldy Vegas, full of senior citizens and bums. Depressing, but "AC" has been on a bit of a downward slope over the last decades, mainly, because the gablers show up, throw a few dollars into the slots, and don't stay over night. As a result, the casinos refund 20 dollars on every RETURN(!) ticket from Philly, even though the ticket only costs 18 bucks. o you actually MAKE 2 dollars when you go. Now, the boardwalk is breathing decay. It's a morbid charm that not even the new gigantic designer outlet strip can reduce, so I wouldn't recommend investing in real estate there.

Samstag: Atlantic City, das Las Vegas der Ostküste. Ein kaltes, etwas schimmliges Las Vegas. Voller Senioren und Penner. Deprimierend, aber "AC" befindet sich seit ein paar Jahren sehr in einem Abwärtstrend, hauptsächlich, weil die Zocker nicht mehr über Nacht bleiben, sondern ein paar Dollars in die Slots werfen und dann nach Hause fahren. Als Ergebnis bekommt man, wenn man das Greyhoudbus-Ticket kauft, 20 Dollar vom Casino wieder, auch wenn das Ticket selbst nu 18 Dollar kostet. Kein Witz, die Hin-und Rückreise sind gratis! Jetzt umweht die Strandpromenade der Odem des Verfalls, was auch etwas zum morbiden Charme beiträgt. Es wurde eine giganitische Designer-Outlet-Mall gebaut, um den Trend doch noch umzukehren, aber trotzdem, Immobilien kaufen würde ich dort nicht...
